Instantaneous Sub-meter Level Precise Point Positioning of Low-Cost Smartphones

Abstract The prevalence of inexpensive global navigation satellite system (GNSS) chips that facilitate the performance carrier phase measurements has provided hardware can be used as foundation for implementing precise point positioning (PPP) low-cost smartphones. However, because atmospheric delays and high measurement noise associated with low-quality patch antennae, convergence time smartphone PPP increase from minutes to even hours. By establishing Satellite-based Ionospheric Model (SIM) Real-time Tropospheric Grid Point (RTGP) models, we aim achieve instantaneous sub-meter level PPP. In both kinematic static experiments, Xiaomi Mi8 Huawei P40 signals converge accuracy in horizontal direction within one six seconds when adopting multi-constellation dual-frequency solutions augmented by corrections. augmentation method effectively improves speed compared what achieved using conventional algorithm, thereby satisfying users’ demand rapid high-accuracy positioning.
